HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – A keynote eight-run second inning led the five inning, 10-0 run-rule triumph for James Madison softball over Robert Morris in its 2025 home opener at Veterans Memorial Park on Thursday evening.

JMU (3-7) sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning, scoring eight runs on six hits with a Payton List two-run home run leading the charge, her second of the year. The Dukes later scored two more in the fourth on a Jasmine Hall two-run single, to cap off her three RBI game.

Cali Legzdin was also a standout at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Legzdin’s three-hit performance was the third for the Dukes this season, with Kylee Gleason and List each recording three hits in a single-game in the early 2025 campaign.

List and Rebecca Muh, combined to hold Robert Morris (2-1) to one hit over five innings, fanning two. List earned her second straight victory in the circle, holding opponents to just two hits in seven innings of work over her last two appearances.

How It Happened
Second Inning
• After a one-out double from Legzdin, Hall delivered a bloop RBI single to left field for the Dukes’ first run of the game
• Following a single from Lexi Rogers, Raegan Wall reached on a RMU throwing error, which scored Hall from second
• Abbie Campbell also reached on a fielding error by the Robert Morris right fielder to score another two runs, for the 4-0 edge
• List cranked a two-run shot to right field, still with one out, for a 6-0 Dukes lead
• Reed Butler and Cali Legzdin followed suit with an RBI double and single, respectively, to cap off the eight run inning
Fourth Inning
• With runners on second and third and two out, Hall singled through the right side to score them both, putting the Dukes in double-digits.

Game Notes
• JMU is now 19-5 all-time in its home openers, including four straight in the friendly confines of Veterans Memorial Park
• Not a single James Madison batter struck out during Thursday’s contest for the first time since playing Saint Joseph’s on March 10, 2024
• The Dukes are 5-2 all-time against the Colonials in its history, dating back to 2003
• Campbell and Madison Edwards extended their on-base streaks to a team-leading six games
• In four appearances so far in the 2025 season, Muh has not given up a run and has allowed just one extra base hit in seven total innings pitched
• Five different Dukes (Butler, Hall, Legzdin, List and Rodgers) all earned a multi-hit game

James Madison will hit the road again to Salem, Va. for the inaugural Hokie Invite at the Moyer Softball Complex. The Dukes will face Robert Morris, Bucknell, Penn State and No. 15 ranked Virginia Tech over three days of action. First pitch against Robert Morris is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m.
