HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (JMU Athletics) – Heading into the fifth tied at four, James Madison softball surrendered a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to fall to Ole Miss by a score of 6-4 during, the final day of action in Huntsville.

Abbie Campbell capped off the four-run second inning for JMU (2-7) with a two-run single, which at the time put the Dukes up 4-3 with two out. Madison Edwards contributed a double, bringing her hitting streak to a career-best five games.

Brianna Lopez went the distance for Ole Miss (11-3), striking out five for her fifth victory of the season. Freshman Persy Llamas delivered the keynote for the Rebels, a three-run shot to right field, her second of the year.

First Inning
• Ole Miss grabbed three early runs off a home run to right field by Persy Llamas
Second Inning
• After Jasmine Hall and Madison Edwards got things going, Reed Butler started the scoring with a sacrifice fly, scoring Hall from third
• Kylee Gleason doubled down the left field line, cutting the Ole Miss lead to one, 4-2
• With the bases loaded, Campbell singled up the middle to score two, giving the Dukes the 4-3 lead
Third Inning
• A two-out throwing error scored Llamas from second for the Rebels, tying the game at four apiece.
Fifth Inning
• Ole Miss set itself up with runners on second and third and nobody out, and took the lead on a Jamie Mackay sacrifice fly
• Mackenzie Pickens stole third and then scored the Rebels’ sixth run on a JMU throwing error

Game Notes
• James Madison is 0-4 in games this season when it is tied through five innings
• The second inning of Sunday’s game marked the second time this season that the Dukes have scored four runs in an inning
• Campbell tied her career-high with two RBI, last done against Southern Miss on May 8, 2024
