HARRISONBURG, VA: (JMU Athletics) – James Madison found the end zone 12 times in an 87-3 victory over Wagner on Saturday afternoon at Bridgeforth Stadium.

It was a record-setting day for the Dukes (2-0), featuring the most points score in one game in program history. JMU scored at least 21 points in all four quarters and tallied nine touchdowns on 12 offensive drives in the win.

JMU also scored three times on special teams, including a blocked punt return for a touchdown and two more punt return for touchdowns.

In all, the Dukes registered 588 yards of total offense on the historic afternoon.

Wide receiver Michael Scott stole the show with 303 all-purpose yards, the fourth-most in single-game JMU history. The York, Pennsylvania, native started with a 92-yard kickoff return before he took two punt returns to the house from 76 and 69 yards, respectively.

Quarterback Camden Coleman finished 12-of-18 for 171 yards and a touchdown in his first JMU start. Quarterback Arrington Maiden added two more touchdown passes in second-half relief.

After Wagner (1-2) went three-and-out to open the game, the Dukes’ special teams made its presence known early. Wide receiver Miles Halbert blocked a Seahawk punt and returned it for a 9-yard touchdown to make it 7-0.

It marked JMU’s first blocked punt for a touchdown since Sept. 21, 2024, at North Carolina.

After Wagner got on the board with a 40-yard field goal on its next possession, Scott took the ensuing kickoff 92 yards to set up the Dukes’ offense. Running back George Pettaway cashed in with a 1-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 14-3.

Pettaway added his second 1-yard score later in the quarter to make it a 21-3 game.

The fifth-year back made it a hat trick early in the second quarter, scoring on a 32-yard rush. Pettaway finished with nine carries for 52 yards and the scores.

Running back Nick Herman, who rushed for a game-high 132 yards in the win, found the end zone twice. He scored for the first time at James Madison on a 15-yard run in the second quarter, before a breakaway, 77-yarder to open the second half.

At the 8:22 mark in the third quarter, Coleman found wide receiver Za’Ron Collins for an 18-yard touchdown strike to make it 63-3. From there, tight end KD Mosley (20-yard TD) and Halbert (44-yard TD) each caught touchdown passes from Maiden.

Running back Phoenix Donghia finished off the scoring late in the fourth with a 1-yard run.

Cornerback Ken Willis led the JMU defense with seven tackles, a sack and fumble recovery. In all, the Dukes held Wagner to just 86 rushing yards on 40 attempts, a 2.2-yard average.

Along with the special teams scores, kicker Morgan Suarez hit a 46-yard field goal late in the third, his third make on the young season.

Saturday marked the first-ever meeting between James Madison and Wagner. With the win, JMU moved to 5-0 against FCS opponents since joining the FCS ranks in 2022.

The announced attendance on Saturday was 25,028, marking JMU’s eighth straight regular-season sellout. The Dukes have now sold out 18 of their last 20 regular-season home games.
