HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — It is 2 years and 9 months in prison for the James Madison University professor who pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

According to online records, William Chisholm Van Norman received a 15-year sentence during a hearing this morning in Charlottesville Circuit Court.

However, a judge suspended 12 years and three months of that sentence.

Van Norman, who turns 69 next week, will also serve two years of supervised probation upon his release.

He pleaded guilty to a pair of felony charges in November, including possession of child pornography second offense, after being arrested last April following a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
