HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) — James Madison men’s soccer was unable to overcome a third-minute goal from No. 20 Georgia Southern, falling, 1-0, on Sunday night at Sentara Park in Sun Belt Conference action.
The Dukes dropped to 1-10-3 (0-6-1 Sun Belt) while the Eagles improved to 11-3-1 (4-3 Sun Belt).
Redshirt junior Cameron Arnold and sophomore Manuel Lolas each had two shots to lead the JMU attack. In goal, sophomore Erik Jaspers made four saves in 90 minutes.
How It Happened
• With two minutes and eight seconds elapsed, Mitch Picksley crossed a ball across the six-yard box that deflected off of Jaspers directly into GS attacker that rebounded into goal.
• In the 16th minute, junior Brock Frasier tapped a bobbled ball in off a corner kick that was saved by GS’ Nate Martinez. The ball looked to have crossed over the goal line, but upon review, the call of no goal was upheld.
• Arnold put two shots on goal for JMU to equalize, one in the 15th minute and one in the 42nd, but both were saved.
• The Dukes outshot Georgia Southern in the first half, 6-4.
• In the 71st minute, Jaspers made a point-blank save to keep the Dukes within a goal.
Game Notes
• The Dukes have faced three ranked opponents at home this season and have limited two to no more than one goal.
• JMU has lost 10 matches in a season for the first time since 2015.
