MADISON, Miss. (JMU Athletics) – A final-round climb up the leaderboard from James Madison men’s golf came up just short on Wednesday, as the Dukes finished sixth out of 14 teams at the 2024 Sun Belt Championship at the Annandale Golf Club and its par-72, 7,190-yard layout.
JMU entered Wednesday’s final round just four strokes off the top four in ninth place. Led by a pair of four-under 68 rounds from Sigurður Blumenstein and Daniel Cheng, the Dukes finished their third round with a team score of 285 (-3), their best showing of the tournament, but came up four strokes short of Texas State in fourth place.
Cheng climbed nearly 20 spots on the 62-player leaderboard Wednesday, notching a tie for 15th with a three-round tally of 229 (+13). He concludes his 2023-24 season with five top-15 finishes and a stroke average of 72.28 in 32 rounds of action. Blumenstein, who entered as a substitute after Monday’s round, carded rounds of 74-68 (142, -2).
After carding a 76 (+1) and 73 (+1) in his first two rounds, Václav Tichý finished his tournament with an even-par 72, tying for 21st with a 54-hole score of 224 (+8). Alexandre D’Aurelle de Paladines posted a tie for 36th with a gross score of 225 (+9).
Nick Schlickenrieder closed his JMU career with a tie for 50th and a three-round aggregate of 229 (+13), posting rounds of 77-75-77. Owen Kose played in Monday’s opening round, managing a 79 (+7).
