PRINCETON, N.J. (JMU Athletics) – The James Madison men’s basketball team has added a trio of games to its 2024-25 slate, as the Dukes will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., on Nov. 21-23 to compete in the inaugural Boardwalk Battle.
Eight mid-major teams from eight different conferences will venture to the Ocean Center for the three-day tournament designed to simulate a conference tournament experience early in the season. East Carolina, Jax State, La Salle, Stetson, Toledo, UC San Diego, and UIC will join the Dukes in the Sunshine State. Each team in the Boardwalk Battle will play three games as part of the action.
JMU will open the tournament at 11 a.m. (ET) on Thursday, Nov. 21 against UIC in the first meeting between the two programs. The winner will advance to the semifinals to face the winner of La Salle versus UC San Diego, while the loser will move to the consolation bracket.
Preston Spradlin enters his first season as head coach at JMU with 11 total newcomers and 10 transfer additions making up his initial roster. JMU is coming off a 2023-24 campaign that saw the Dukes win a program-record 32 games and defeat Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.
