HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison baseball’s nine-game home winning streak came to a halt on Tuesday night as it fell, 6-4, to Maryland at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Dukes dropped to 24-16 on the year but have their best 40-game record since 2011. The Terps ended their 10-game road trip at 4-6 and improved to 26-16 overall.
Junior Fenwick Trimble led the way at the plate for JMU by going 2-for-4 with an RBI, two doubles and two runs scored. Classmate Todd Mozoki started on the bump and went two innings, surrendering one hit and striking out two.
How It Happened
First Inning
Back-to-back doubles from Trimble and sophomore Mike Mancini scored the first run of the game to give JMU a 1-0 lead an inning in.
Third Inning
Two unearned runs crossed home plate for the Terps, as a fielding error allowed a run to score and created the chance for an RBI single to give UMD a 2-1 lead.
JMU responded with a leadoff single from junior Ryan Dooley who then scored from first base on Trimble’s second double of the game to tie the game. The Dukes then took a 3-2 lead on a wild pitch.
Fourth Inning
Dooley recorded the Dukes’ fifth double of the game to score freshman Kyle Langley to push the lead to 4-2. Langley drew a walk to lead off the inning.
Fifth Inning
UMD hit a solo shot and then a three-run homer to put four runs on the board and take a 6-4 lead.
