HARRISONBURG, Va. (EMU Athletics) – EMU Director of Athletics Carrie S. Bert has announced the resignation of Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Jenny Posey.

Coach Posey has dedicated many years to coaching college basketball, centering holistic student development during her time as head coach,” Bert said. “Over the past four years, she has also led as Senior Woman Administrator, contributing in meaningful ways across the department, from supporting GA professional development and organizing the Athletics Awards Ceremony, to serving on hiring committees and collaborating across the ODAC. Jenny has given her time, energy, and heart to EMU Athletics, and for that, we are grateful.”

Posey took over the Royals program in 2018, after coming to EMU from fellow ODAC school Hollins University. Prior to becoming a head coach, she was an assistant coach at Mount Saint Mary College in New York, and an assistant coach at the University of Lynchburg.

During her time at the helm of the Royals, Posey posted 56 wins across eight seasons. She guided her teams to three appearances in the ODAC Women’s Basketball Tournament: 2021, 2023 and 2024. She coached a pair of All-ODAC selections in Mya Hamlet (2023) and Kayla Surles (2024). On top of her duties as a head coach, Posey also acted as the department’s Senior Woman Administrator, which is the highest-ranking female in an athletics department, involved in senior-level management, decision-making, strategic planning as well as serving as a mentor and role model for student-athletes and staff.

“Over the last eight years, my life has been made infinitely better knowing some of the incredible women who have come through this program and are now making their mark on the world as teachers, coaches, nurses, social workers, and more,” Posey said. “I’m also grateful to have worked alongside some wonderful people across campus and within our department — at the top of that list being Mikayla Koch who is one of the most exceptional human beings I’ve ever known. Finally, EMU gave me the opportunity to blend my passion for athletics with my love of family. Words cannot describe how meaningful it has been to share a bench with my father as an assistant coach and have an office two doors down from my husband who coaches baseball here at EMU.”

Posey’s final day will be May 15. EMU will start the search for a new women’s basketball coach immediately.
