HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – Republican candidate for Virginia governor Winsome Earle-Sears addressed the text controversy surrounding Democratic Attorney General candidate Jay Jones during the GOP ‘Oysters with Obenshain’ event Tuesday night at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds.
Earle-Sears criticized her opponent Democrat Abigail Spanberger for not telling Jones to step out of the race.
“You don’t say you want to hurt your political opponent, and you don’t say you want to murder his children,” Earle Sears said. “And then you (say) that his wife is ‘breeding little fascists?’”
The Lieutenant Governor suggested “Abigail is for Abigail” as a possible motivation for Spanberger’s refusal to call for Jones’ withdrawal.

In like manner, Republican Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares weighed in on his Democratic opponent’s texts saying Jones is running for Attorney General a politician and not as a prosecutor.
“He’s running for this office and turned it into a political weapon to be used against his political opponent,” Miyares said. “And we know what he wants to do to his political opponent.”
Miyares and Jones will face off in their first and only Attorney General debate Thursday evening at 6 at the University of Richmond.
