NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – A pair of James Madison volleyball players took home weekly honors from the Sun Belt, as freshman Jordan Smart won Setter of the Week while junior Brenya Reid was awarded Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

In a pair of road wins at Marshall, Smart led the Dukes with 91 assists and notched a pair of double-doubles, the first of her career. Smart averaged 13.00 assists per set, the sixth highest nationally. She recorded 40 assists and 11 digs in Friday’s sweep and topped those totals Saturday, totaling 51 assists and 17 digs. Her 51 assists on Saturday were the most for a JMU player since Caroline Dozier had 53 against Marshall on Nov. 5, 2022.

Reid, the junior from Georgetown, Del., led the Sun Belt in kills per set (5.57) and was second in kills (39) and points (43.0) in the pair of victories. She paced a JMU offense that led the Sun Belt in kills (113) and hitting percentage (.351). In seven sets, she was also second in the league in points, finishing with three service aces and totaling 43.0 points (6.14 per set).

The Dukes return to action on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. as they host Coastal Carolina in a rematch of the 2023 Sun Belt Championship match. JMU sits at 8-8 and 3-3 in Sun Belt play, having won three straight matches.
