HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison lacrosse attacker Maddie Epke earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday. The honor follows a victorious week for JMU, who began league play 1-0 with a 20-8 victory over Vanderbilt in Nashville on Saturday.

The laurel marks the third weekly AAC honor already for Epke this season, who recorded four goals on five shots, two ground balls, one caused turnover, and 20 draw controls in the win over the Commodores. The outing in the circle was a season-high for Epke and allowed her to pass Isabella Peterson to become the JMU all-time leader in career draw controls (330) while also setting new personal and AAC single-game records. Epke currently sits first in the conference and second nationally in draws per game (11.43). The Dukes rank fifth nationally in draw percentage (.656).

The #14 Dukes will begin a four-game homestand on Wednesday, March 19 when they welcome #12 Virginia to Sentara Park. Opening draw is slated for 6 p.m.
