AUSTIN, Texas (JMU Athletics) – No. 4 Texas knocked down 39-of-71 (.549) from the field and recorded 50 points in the paint, while James Madison committed a season-high 29 turnovers as the Dukes fell to the Longhorns 95-56 on Wednesday night in non-conference women’s basketball action at Moody Center.

JMU (3-3) out-rebounded Texas (5-0), 37-35, however, the Longhorns scored 31 points off turnovers and registered 29 assists on its 39 baskets.

Peyton McDaniel led all players with 20 points, connecting on 3-of-7 (.429) from three to go along with six rebounds. Kylie Marshall finished with 10 points off the bench, the second double-digit outing for the Mansfield, Texas native this season. Freshman Grace McDonough produced eight points in 23 minutes, while Delilah Soltys recorded a career-high seven points. Bree Robinson paced the Dukes with four assists and grabbed four boards in the loss.

Five Longhorns scored in double figures, with SEC Preseason Player of the Year Madison Booker tallying a team-best 18 points, followed by Breya Cunningham (17), Jordan Lee (16), Kyla Oldacre (14) and Rori Harmon (11). Harmon dished out 12 assists and came away with five steals, while Cunningham wrangled in a game-best eight boards.

How It Happened
First Quarter – UT 25, JMU 9
• James Madison trailed the Longhorns 16-9 at the media timeout, however, Texas closed on a 9-0 run and held the Dukes scoreless for the final 4:45 of the opening frame.
• JMU committed 14 turnovers, which UT turned into 11 points.

Second Quarter – UT 48, JMU 22
• Marshall scored eight points off the bench to provide a spark for the Dukes’ offense.
• The Longhorns went 10-for-17 (.588) from the field, with Lee knocking down a three at the buzzer to give UT a 26-point lead at the break.
• Through 30 minutes, Texas held the upper hand in points off turnovers (19-10) and points in the paint (30-14).

Third Quarter – UT 71, JMU 34
• After Stephenson knocked down a pair of free throws to open the second half, the Longhorns rattled off an 11-1 run to make it 59-25 at the 6:15 mark and force a JMU timeout.
• Texas led by as much as 44 (69-25), but the Dukes fought back late in the period with a 6-0 run over the final 2:53, while the Longhorns failed to score for the remaining 3:03.

Fourth Quarter – UT 95, JMU 56
• McDaniel scored 13 of her 20 points in the final frame, going 3-for-5 (.600) from the floor and 5-for-6 (.833) from the line.
• The Dukes sank 10-of-13 (.769) from the charity as JMU produced 22 points in the final frame.

Game Notes
• McDaniel has scored 20-plus points in 32 career games.
• McLeod rejected three UT shots for her third multi-block game of the season.
• The Longhorns’ 95 points are the most given up by JMU since falling to Michigan State, 95-69, at the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 23, 2023.
