HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – James Madison University (JMU) has unveiled its latest initiative to bolster campus safety with the JMU Shield app.
The free app, replacing LiveSafe, aims to provide the university community with essential alerts and instant access to public safety resources.
JMU Shield features an advanced mobile reporting platform, offering users a real-time alert system to communicate with friends and campus police. The app includes in-app reporting, safety resources, take-action guidelines and an app sharing feature for easy sharing via Facebook, X and email.
JMU Shield offers a comprehensive safety solution and does not replace the Madison ALERT system, which remains the primary communication method between JMU and its students, faculty and staff during emergencies. All JMU community members are automatically enrolled in the system.
“We are thrilled to introduce the JMU Shield app to our university community,” Anthony Matos, JMU’s chief of police, in a news release. “The safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff are of utmost importance to us, and this app will serve as a valuable tool in enhancing campus safety.”
JMU Shield is available for download on iOS and Android devices. Users can access the app through their respective app stores.
