HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and DRIVE SMART Virginia in partnership with James Madison University athletics unveiled a new sober driving outreach campaign.
DMV Commissioner Gerald Lackey, the Governor’s Highway Safety Representative, explained in a news release earlier this week that the ‘What’s Your Game Plan’ campaign highlights the need to plan ahead for a safe and sober ride after events where alcohol may be involved.
“Planning ahead for a night out is a must,” Lackey said. “We are so grateful to DRIVE SMART, VCU and JMU for joining us in reminding sports fans that a sober ride home needs to be a part of their game day game plan.”
Frank Scicchitano is the business development manager for JMU athletics. He explained during Thursday morning’s press outing at the Atlantic Union Bank Center that the ‘What’s Your Game Plan’ campaign shows that the school is committed the safety and wellbeing of their fans.
“We want people to come out and be able to enjoy themselves, but do it responsibly,” Scicchitano said. “And the messaging that this campaign brings is a really good reminder of that and our commitment to wanting to continue to promote.”
The partnership marking the initiative will be introduced at JMU to deliver a message of safe and responsible driving to its sporting events.
