HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – After a three-match road trip, James Madison men’s soccer returned to Sentara Park on Tuesday night, getting goals from junior Jonas Griesbauer and sophomore Diego Ossa in a 2-0 win over Iona.

The Dukes snapped their six-match winless streak and improved to 1-5-1, while the Gaels fell to 2-2-2.

In addition to the goals, sophomore Manuel Lolas had a pair of assists and classmate Milo Wray led the team with a career-high four shots. In goal for the Dukes was sophomore Erik Jaspers, recording three saves for his second clean sheet of the season.

“It was a positive night. Getting a result at home is always what you work for and tonight the guys battled. Offensively we were sharp, scoring twice, and defensively we kept the shutout. Overall, I think it was a positive mindset, and it feels good to win.”

How It Happened
• Iona had the first chance of the match, firing a shot on goal in the 17th minute.
• In the 21st minute, the Dukes were awarded a corner kick. Wray stepped to take it and connected on the post off the kick, with graduate Zemi Rodriguez getting a foot on the rebound and pushing it wide.
• The Dukes had another close opportunity in the 31st minute, as Lolas had a shot go off the crossbar.
• JMU finally found the back of the net in the 36th minute, as Griesbauer headed Lolas’ corner kick to give the Dukes the lead.
• Lolas nearly had a goal again, hitting the far post in the 53rd minute.
• In the 78th minute, JMU doubled its lead as Lolas had a quick touch to Ossa inside the 18-yard box to help Ossa score for a 2-0 lead.
• Iona seemed to cut the deficit in half on a bicycle kick from Enbiya Bolur in the 81st minute, but a foul was called and the goal was waved off.

• The two assists are the first of Manuel Lolas’ career, as he became the first Duke to record multiple assists since Jeffrey Aguilar had three on Sept. 24 last season.
• The Dukes had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
• JMU scored multiple goals for the first time since playing UCF in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt tournament last season.
