HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – Five Dukes scored as James Madison posted a 5-0 shutout against Longwood in Mid-American Conference field hockey action on Friday evening at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.

The Dukes (7-3, 2-0 MAC) held a lopsided advantage in shots (23-2) and scored four of their five goals in the opening 16 minutes to down the Lancers (2-7, 0-2 MAC).

Skyler Brown paced the JMU offense with a goal and a career-high two assists, while Alice Roeper scored on a penalty stroke and added a helper. Julie Narleski, Madelief Molier and Maddie Tierney also found the back of the net – with Tierney’s goal being the first of her career.

The Dukes played all three goalkeepers, with Molly Schreiner earning the win and making one save in 30:00. Hannah Popolis came in to start the second half, and Lilly Sweeney finished in cage for the fourth quarter.

Longwood netminder Sophie Mooldijk recorded nine saves in the loss. The Lancers held firm in the second half, allowing no goals after the 32nd minute.

Quoting Head Coach Christy Morgan
“We were exceptional in the first quarter – we really worked together, played with each other, and supported each other. And it showed because we were able to finish. We had great moments today but we were not consistently great. We have some things to work on, but overall, a pretty good performance, especially in the first half.”

How It Happened
• Brown collected a rebound off a shot from Roeper and sent in a pass from the right side to Narleski for the tap-in to open the scoring just under two minutes into the contest.
• Roeper converted on a penalty stroke at the 9:24 mark of the first – the first of the season for the Dukes – to put JMU ahead 2-0.
• On a reset, Jola Ollrogge connected with Brown, who weaved through Longwood’s defense and sent a shot to the bottom right corner to make it 3-0 with 13 seconds remaining in the first period.
• Fading away from the goal, Roeper took a shot that was deflected in front by Molier under a minute into the second frame to build JMU’s lead to 4-0.
• On a penalty corner situation, Brown drifted to the right, sending a shot left to the stick of Tierney for the tip-in goal, just 1:46 into the third.

Game Notes
• The Dukes have won seven of their first 10 games for the third time in the last four seasons.
• JMU’s four goals in the first half are the most by the program in the opening thirty minutes since scoring five in the first during a 14-0 rout of Queens (N.C.) on Nov. 4, 2023. Additionally, Roeper’s 10 shots against the Lancers are the most by a Duke since Mia Julian took 10 versus the Royals in 2023.
• Today’s result was JMU’s second consecutive shutout against Longwood after blanking the Lancers 2-0 last season on Nov. 1.
• Moreover, the Dukes have recorded five shutouts against MAC opponents in 10 regular-season contests since joining the league in 2024.
• Molier’s goal gives her four-straight games finding the back of the net, the longest scoring streak of her career.
