CONWAY, S.C. (JMU Athletics) – No. 16 Coastal Carolina used a pair of multi-run innings as James Madison baseball fell, 12-2 in seven innings, in Sun Belt Conference action on Friday night at Spring Brooks Stadium.
The Dukes had their four-game winning streak snapped, falling to 11-9 (3-1 Sun Belt) while the Chanticleers improved to 14-7 (4-0 Sun Belt).
Freshman Cameron Aycock led the Dukes at the plate, going 2-for-3 for his fifth multi-hit game of the year.
How It Happened
Second Inning
The Dukes struck first, loading the bases for freshman Ryan Gocio to drive in a run on a sacrifice fly.
Coastal responded with four runs on a solo shot and a three-run homer to take a 4-1 lead.
Fourth Inning
Gocio recorded his second RBI, bringing in a run with a bases-loaded walk.
The Chants responded by regaining their three-run lead, knocking in a run on a single.
Sixth Inning
CCU scored six runs in the inning to go ahead 11-2, aided by four base hits and a balk.
Seventh Inning
With two down and one on, Rex Watson singled into left center to put the Chants ahead 10 runs and end the game.
Game Notes
• Kyle Langley’s 10-game hit streak and 16-game reached base streak were both snapped. It was the longest reached base streak for a Duke since Mike Mancini’s 23-game streak towards the end of 2024.
• Reece Moody was caught stealing for the first time this season, moving to 12-for-13 on attempts.
• Holden McKinney pitched a career-high 4.0 innings and tossed a season-high-tying three strikeouts.
