HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – A hot-hitting Fairfield team scratched runs across in the fifth and eighth innings, as James Madison baseball fell, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Dukes dropped to 5-6 this season, while Fairfield improved to 5-4.
Senior Coleman Calabrese led the Dukes at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort that included a double. Classmate Todd Mozoki got the start on the mound and went a season-high 4.1 innings, giving up a pair of runs and striking out four.
How It Happened
Fifth Inning
After a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch put a Stag on second, Fairfield knocked in two runs on as many doubles before adding a third run on a single with an error to make it 3-0.
Eighth Inning
Fairfield began the inning with four consecutive hits, getting the first run of the inning on the last of three straight singles before using a double to knock in another run. Back-to-back bases loaded walks brought home two more runs to make the score 7-0.
Game Notes
• With a scoreless inning of work, Corey Costello pushed his consecutive innings without allowing an earned run streak to 12.1 innings.
• Tyler Muscar tossed two strikeouts in two innings of work, tying career-highs for both.
• The Dukes were shutout at home for the first time since falling to St. Bonaventure, 1-0, on March 11, 2018.

The Dukes go on the for the next week, heading up to Maryland for a midweek contest on Wednesday, March 5 before traveling down to Charlotte for a three-game set on March 7-9.
