HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) is investigating a traffic crash involving a pedestrian at the 1500 block of South Main Street on Thursday, June 19, shortly after 10:00 AM.
The 88-year-old female Harrisonburg resident was assessed, and Harrisonburg Rescue was immediately called to the scene. Rescue provided medical care on scene and determined she was critically injured; she was then transported to University of Virginia by AirCare.
The vehicle involved, a four door Toyota Sedan was being driven by 86-year-old, female resident of Rockingham County. The driver immediately stopped after the impact and was cooperative with the investigation. Preliminary investigation shows the Toyota was traveling south bound on South Main Street in the left lane of travel. The pedestrian was travelling from East to West across South Main Street but not in a designated crosswalk location.
According to a release, the Harrisonburg Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Harrisonburg Fire Department and the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad.
