HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Houston Ballet II Academy will embark on a multi-city tour for the first time since 2019, after a five-year hiatus.

Starting in March, HBII students will showcase the artistry of the Houston Ballet across five East Coast communities: Harrisonburg, VA; Lewisburg, PA; St. Johnsbury, VT; Stuart, FL; and Cutler Bay, FL. The students will perform a diverse range of pieces, including Don Quixote, The Sleeping Beauty, and Stanton Welch’s Garden of Mirth.

While many pre-professional ballet programs exist, few offer the opportunity to tour. “This is an incredible experience for them,” says Instructor Kelly Myernick. “I didn’t have the chance to tour until I was a company dancer. Touring provides invaluable lessons that will help prepare the students for their professional careers, including ensuring their costumes and accessories are performance-ready, adapting to different venues, and staying punctual with bus calls.”

Beyond the technical skills, the tour also offers students the chance to create lasting friendships with their peers and connect with the communities they visit. It allows them to share their passion for ballet with audiences who may not have direct access to world-class performances while gaining essential skills for their future endeavors.

The Houston Ballet II Academy will be in Harrisonburg on March 25 and 26.
