HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority (HRHA) announces a new collaborative effort to support Court Square Theater’s (CST) continued operation.

According to a release, HRHA owns the portion of the building at 41 Court Square that houses the CST and is investigating ways for the theater to remain operational.

In recent days, members of the regional arts community—representing the City of Harrisonburg, Rockingham County and surrounding areas—met to explore solutions to ensure the theater’s short-term sustainability. These conversations, combined with strong public outcry and advocacy, led to a
collective plan to keep CST’s doors open.

As a result, the Harrisonburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority has set up a public donation portal. Donations are designated for Court Square Theater’s operational costs, allowing scheduled performances and programming in 2026’s first quarter to continue uninterrupted.

Funds raised will also provide critical time for HRHA to hold community outreach meetings. These gatherings will invite artists, patrons and residents to share their vision for the future of Court Square
Theater as a communal arts space.

“The response from the community has made it clear that Court Square Theater is deeply valued,” said HRHA representatives. “This initiative ensures continuity in the short term while opening the door for meaningful community dialogue about the theater’s long-term role.”
