Horace Easterly Jones, Jr. passed onto his eternal reward on Saturday morning, May 11, 2024.
He and his wife Sally moved to the Shenandoah Valley, in 1998, from Northern Virginia. Horace retired from the State of Virginia, Dept. of Health in Fairfax County, where he had been employed since serving in the US Navy and graduating from East Tennessee State University. Throughout his career he had been very active in his professional organizations including ; Virginia Environmental Health Association, Virginia Public Health Association, National Capital Area Environmental Health Association, and National Environmental Health Association- serving as President. This was a great honor to him. While living in Fairfax he joined the Fairfax Elks and ended up serving as State Secretary for 14 years. Upon moving to the Shenandoah Valley, he transferred to an Elks Lodge in the area. Golf was at the top of Horace’s list of physical activities, so upon moving to New Market he began playing at Shenvalee Golf Resort. It was not long before he was offered a job in the Pro Shop where he ended up as manager.
Horace was a busy and faithful man. He was born October 30, 1934, in Jonesboro, TN to the late Horace E. and Una Mae Jones Sr.
Rev. Kathy Murray will conduct a funeral service on Thursday at 11:00 am, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, in Mt Jackson, Virginia with burial at Emmanual Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway VA.
