HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — With temperatures forecasted to be in the single digits early next week, Harrisonburg School Superintendent Dr. Michael Richards indicated during this week’s school board meeting that they may have to operate on a delay.
Richards told the school board that while he wants to have kids in school, he will not risk them getting injured. He also said that there will need to be adjustments made to the schedule to make up for missed time.
“We tend to like to add a little time to the end of days,” Richards said. “It is better than having Saturday school or taking a day away from spring break or adding days at the end of the school year. We prefer to add a little bit of time to each day.
Richards added that the school division right now is close enough to the required 990 hours needed for the school year. However, any further delays or cancellations will require an adjustment in the schedule.
