HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Harrisonburg City Public School’s director of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine education got her moment in the national spotlight this morning.
Amy Sabarre was invited to speak during today’s STEMM Equity and Excellence Summit at the White House.
The event was titled Propelling Progress and Prosperity by 2050, but Sabarre said progress has already been made – judging by a recent student-led STEM career fair at Harrisonburg High School.
“As I walked through the cafeteria talking to all of the STEMM professionals that were there, I suddenly got the chills. As I looked around and realized, that this was the most diverse group of STEMM professionals I had ever seen under one roof, the idea of “you cannot be what you cannot see” quickly came to mind and I said, “our students can see what they can become”.”
Harrisonburg High Schools has three STEMM pathways for students, ranging from Math and Science to Technology and Engineering, and a new path dedicated to Health Care.
