HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – The Harrisonburg City School Board approved two action items during last night’s work session.

The first was approving proposed changes to the elementary school schedule to add 10 minutes to the day.  The second was the approval of a retention bonus for all staff.

Executive Director of Finance Daniel Kirwan said the final approval from Governor Youngkin and the General Assembly is the last step in the process, and the money should arrive at the end of the month.

“They’re giving enough money for $1,000 for SOQ positions,” said Kirwan. “Obviously we believe we should give that to all of our staff. So, we would be doing $1,000 for all full-time employees.”

For staff who are part-time or depending on how long they have worked at HCPS, the bonus will be prorated.

The vote for both action items was unanimous.
