HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg City School Board discussed the draft of the 2026-2027 School calendar during last night’s meeting.

According to a presentation from Chief Academic Officer Dr. Joy Blosser, a Data Review Committee with family and staff respondents listed several priorities.

For families, having spring break aligned with Easter is a priority. Meanwhile with staff, it’s making sure the first day of school is on a Wednesday.

Dr. Blosser also mentioned snow days being included.

“The other thing that the committee really wanted to try to do was balance out as best they could the two semesters. And if we were going to have more days in a semester, they wanted more days in second semester, because that’s typically where we get more snow days, which, you know, with the storm that might be coming, they could be right,” said Dr. Blosser.

The board plans to vote at the next meeting.
