HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg City School Board has approved a supplemental appropriation request to improve two city schools.
Chief Operating Officer Shawn Printz requested 270 thousand dollars for the modernization of an elevator in Waterman Elementary School and to replace a roof section at Keiser Elementary School.
Tom Domonoske noted why the elevator modernization is vital for Waterman Elementary. “I will say that the issue of the elevators going doing and not working is regularly talked about at the Special Education Advisory Committee meetings. Because if the elevator doesn’t work — these students need it in order to get to class.”
Both projects are included in the previously approved Capital Improvement Plan. The funds are what remains of the capital school fund, which was money that had already been given to the school board.
The projects are set to begin once the students leave for the summer.
