HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Like all school divisions, Harrisonburg City Public Schools will be following the General Assembly session that now begins on Monday.

Superintendent Dr. Michael Richards explained on Early Mornings that they have a bill that was introduced that would require residential facilities to communicate with school officials in terms of students returning to school after treatment.

“They’re not required to now, and sometimes kids return and we’re like “What do we do with this kid? We don’t know this kid.” So, it’s best for everybody that we have communication.”

The bill, which was sponsored by Delegate Tony Wilt and Senator Mark Obenshain, failed last year.

However, Richards says with Northern Virginia Democratic Senator Barbara Favola on board this year, the measure has better chance of passing this session.
