WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) – As the spring season begins, local organizations are coming together to support the men and women who keep food on our tables. The Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs (AFOP) and Telamon | TRC are launching the Harvest for Heroes Long-Sleeve Shirt & Raincoat Drive, an effort to provide essential protective clothing for farmworkers as they prepare for the upcoming harvest.

The community is encouraged to donate gently used, light-colored, long-sleeved button-down shirts made from natural fibers, such as cotton or linen, to help farmworkers reduce their risk of pesticide exposure and heat-related illness. Additionally, raincoats are needed to protect workers during inclement weather.

Donation drop-offs will be at Tractor Supply Co. on 301 Lew Dewitt Blvd, Waynesboro, VA 22980 (side parking lot) on Friday, March 28th from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Tractor Supply Co. is serving as a collection hub but is not accepting donations directly. Community members can drop off their donations during the Harvest for Heroes Awareness Event Rally, where there will be opportunities to celebrate our farmworkers and growers.

At 2 PM, a special recognition ceremony will take place to honor local farmers and growers with certificates of appreciation. The event may also feature tables, tents, and a pop-up kitchen or food truck to create a welcoming atmosphere of gratitude and support.

For those unable to attend on March 28th, donations can also be placed in collection barrels (donated by McKee Foods) located inside Atlantic Union Bank lobbies in the area.

This event is an opportunity for the community to come together and support those who work tirelessly to feed us all. Help us make a difference—every shirt and raincoat count.
