HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) –The Harrisonburg woman who was charged with calling in a fake bomb threat at a Harrisonburg department store last month has escaped jail time.

Online records show that Riley Mercado was found guilty of using profane language over public airways during a hearing this morning in the general district court.

A judge then sentenced the 19-year-old Mercado to a one-year jail term, with all time suspended plus court costs.

City officials said that Mercado admitted to police that she reported the fake threat at the Kohl’s on East Market Street on the night of March 4.
