HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Parents who homeschool their children are upset over a bill in the General Assembly that would strip away the religious exemption for homeschooling.
Harrisonburg Senator Mark Obenshain explained in a video on his Facebook page that he received a number of emails regarding this measure and adds that he opposes it.
“I have long believed that one size fits all education does not work for every family in Virginia,” Obenshain said. “I believe parents ought to have the right to make decisions concerning of their child. Senate bill 1031 is an ill-advised attack on parents who choose to homeschool their children.”
Obenshain says he will do everything he can to ensure that the bill does not pass if it gets to the Senate floor.
He added that if it does pass the Democratic-controlled General Assembly, he is confident that Governor Glenn Youngkin will veto it.
