HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Harrisonburg Police Department are reporting they have received multiple calls about scams involving Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency.
HPD said these scammers will ask for Bitcoin as payment for things such as fixing a virus on your computer or cell phone, deleting your personal information from illegal websites, or even claiming to be an incarcerated family member who needs money.
These scammers will often claim to be calling you from Microsoft or a reliable company, but no legitimate company or business will accept Bitcoin, gift cards, or money orders as payment for their services.
There are multiple Bitcoin ATMs around the city, and the flyer shown below has been posted at most locations to alert users about the potential for scams.
