HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — For Verizon users, services are experiencing widespread cellular service outages. This is impacting the ability for many Verizon cell phones to make or receive phone calls.

The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) announced on their social media page that this outage should NOT affect the ability to reach 911.

If you are experiencing an emergency and are unable to place a call using your mobile phone, HPD advises to:

  • Use a landline if available.
  • Use Wifi calling if your device and network support it.
  • Use satellite service on your cellphone, but do not hang up until you’ve spoken with a call taker.
  • Try calling from another cellular carrier.
  • If possible, relocate or send someone to an area with cellular service to place the call.
