HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – It is two months in jail for the Harrisonburg man who admitted to setting a fire in a hotel room six weeks ago.

According to online records, John Wesley Whitaker Junior pleaded guilty to a pair of amended misdemeanor charges during a hearing Wednesday afternoon in General District Court.

A judge then sentenced him to 24 months in prison with 22 of those months suspended.

Harrisonburg Fire units were dispatched on May 20th for an automatic fire alarm at a hotel in the 1400 block of East Market Street that upgraded to a structure fire.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish it and keep damage to a minimum.

During an investigation, Whitaker admitted to starting the fire.
