HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg Farmers Market (HFM) announced in a release it is collaborating with state and local organizations in order to support customers who rely on The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

HFM is a partner of Virginia Fresh Match, a network of farmers markets, mobile markets, farm stores, and community food stores that DOUBLE SNAP/EBT food assistance. At the Market, SNAP transactions can be processed for any dollar amount and will be matched up to $30.

The Market does $30-40,000 of SNAP and SNAP Matching each year.

In 2024, their vendors reportedly donated 7,434.25 pounds of produce. HFM collaborates with food banks and hunger relief organizations who collect donations of food from vendors after-market hours.

This November, SNAP customers in Virginia get $20 in free fruits and vegetables when they shop at a participating farmers market, no matter what they spend. At grocery stores, SNAP customers get 75% off produce from November 19th-26th, no matter what they spend.

If a customer has a $0 balance on their SNAP card, they still receive $20 in VFM tokens at no cost.
