HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance (HDR) announced they have given away $4,000 worth of Downtown Dollars to celebrate Love Local Week, Friday, February 20 – Sunday, March 1, 2026. This campaign aims to kickstart a return to shopping local to help small businesses after last month’s snowstorm.

Visitors are encouraged to support locally owned downtown businesses with random giveaways and prize drawings for larger pools of Downtown Dollars.

According to a release, throughout the week, businesses and HDR volunteers will be surprising people roaming downtown with $10-25 in Downtown Dollars to spend at a downtown destination. Customers who spend $25 or more at participating businesses are eligible to enter to win prizes ranging from $50 Downtown Dollars to $1,000 Downtown Dollars.

“The first few months of the year are often financially challenging for independently owned small businesses, and the snowstorm made things even harder,” says Andrea L. Dono, executive director of HDR. “We wanted to offer a fun way to remind our community that small businesses need their support and to help circulate money back into our downtown economy. Love Local Week will be full of sparks of joy, and we are excited to surprise people throughout downtown during this week!”
