HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – Harrisonburg City Council tabled a rezoning request to build housing on two parcels on Smithland Road.

Last month, the Planning Commission recommended against allowing the development.

However, Vice Mayor Laura Dent explained during Tuesday night’s meeting that those who voted against it were what they call soft nos.

“Just about everybody [on planning commission] said they were close to the line no matter what side of the line they landed on. That to me says we’re close but not quite there,” Dent explained. “Even though I would be ready to approve it, I can certainly go along with delaying for a couple of weeks as long as it does not jeopardize the project itself.”

The council could approve the project at its April 22nd meeting, especially if the developers take care of the unresolved issues such as drainage.
