HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Harrisonburg City Council adopted the 2026 Central Shenandoah Hazard Mitigation Plan during last night’s meeting.

Acting Deputy Emergency Coordinator Jamison Ryder said this plan is the region’s long-term strategy for reducing the impacts of natural and human-caused hazards.

“It identifies where we’re vulnerable, outlines practical mitigation actions, and helps position the city to protect lives, property, infrastructure, and essential services over the next 5 years,” said Ryder.

Ryder continued by saying this is a partnership with the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission, and the plan is also mandated by FEMA and Virginia Department for Emergency Management.
