Grover Medford Mowbray Sr., 79, a resident of Bridgewater, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at his home.
Mr. Mowbray was born on December 11, 1944 in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Douglas Henry and Eva Pearl Shifflett Mowbray. He was employed for 33 ½ years with the City of Harrisonburg and was a private contractor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing pool.
On March 28, 1964, he married Burnette Marie McDonaldson Mowbray who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Marie Mowbray Reed and husband Mike of Stuarts Draft, Eva May Lambert and husband Calvin of Churchville, Grover Mowbray Jr. of Bridgewater, Margie Martson and her family; siblings, Douglas “Nookie” Mowbray and wife Kay of Harrisonburg, Flossie Walters of Keezletown, Kenneth Mowbray of Harrisonburg; grandchildren, Jenny, Katrina, Jeremy, Jessie, Benji, Shay, Jamie, Calvin Jr., Christerpher, Jonathan, Amanda, Grover, Michael, Kevin, Dougie, Jessica, Stephanie; and 31 great grandchildren. Grover had very special family in his life: His grandchildren, Jeremy Jordan, Jonathan Lambert, Amanda Lambert, Kevin Mowbray; nephew, David Hager; special friend, Mike Bennett; uncle who was like brother, Charles Morris; and a very special great grandson, Dreyson Jordan.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mowbray was preceded in death by his sons, Donnie Mowbray, Jesse Mowbray; siblings, Herbert Mowbray, Nelson “Boots” Mowbray, Robert Mowbray, Maxine Donovan; a brother-in-law, Carroll Walters; and a special son-in-law, Kenny Wimer.
