ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The water table in the central Shenandoah Valley is looking good as we go into the month of April. That’s according to data provided by the US Geological Survey.

Groundwater levels in Rockingham County are now at their highest level in two years. Data provided by the US Geological Survey indicates the water table has risen by nine feet in the last six months. Much of that can be attributed to multiple snow events this winter, plus a significant hurricane last fall.

This weekend saw dusty conditions across much of the Shenandoah Valley, but the water table has nothing to do with conditions on the surface. In Rockingham County, the water table is 70 feet below the surface. Bottom line? There’s plenty of water down there. Homes and farms on well water should be in good shape as we go into spring of 2025.
