RICHMOND VA:  (WSVA) – Governor Glen Youngkin signed two bills into law last night that protect the right to same-sex marriage in the commonwealth.
Under the new statute, government officials are now required to provide marriage licenses to couples regardless of their sex or gender.
However, clergy members and religious institution may also refuse to perform a marriage that doesn’t align with their beliefs.
Same-sex marriage is still technically outlawed under an old clause in the Virginia Constitution, which Democrats hope to amend through a voter referendum.
