ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Governor Glenn Youngkin is sending his condolences to the parents of a man found dead in Gaza.

Hersh Goldberg-Polin was taken hostage by Hamas last year at a music festival in southern Israel and his body was found by Israeli forces in a tunnel in the Gaza city of Rafah.

The 23-year-old grew up in Richmond, and his abduction led to vigils and demands for action to secure his release.

Youngkin issued a statement yesterday saying he and his wife were “angered and heartbroken” by his death.

He plans to issue an order to lower state flags to half-staff to honor Goldberg-Polin tomorrow, September 3.
