HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin presented the second 2025 Spirit of Virginia Award to New Creation VA during a ceremony at Grace Covenant Church on Friday, February 28, 2025.

New Creation VA is a non-profit organization and fair-trade shop co-founded by Executive Director Sabrina Dorman-Andrew, and her husband, Steven Andrew. The organization focuses on combatting human trafficking through education and job creation. They first started their work by selling Ugandan beads from their home in 2013. New Creation VA has now partnered with 200 organizations from over 5 continents.

In her speech, Dorman-Andrew said that over the years, she was told that she gives a voice to the voiceless.

“But the truth is,” said Dorman-Andrew, “Our work is to bridge our resources and leverage our platform so the voices of survivors can be heard. They are not voiceless. They very much have a voice.”

Governor Glenn Youngkin said during his speech that they had been searching for an organization to highlight their work fighting human trafficking for three years. However, it was difficult due to how dangerous the work is.

“The women mostly that they serve are threatened,” said Governor Youngkin, “And therefore, the need to keep confidentiality high and therefore keep the work that they do somewhat hidden is one of the main ingredients into their success.”

Dorman-Andrew also announced during the ceremony that they will be breaking ground on a multi-purpose building to continue their local work in Harrisonburg in a few weeks.

Plans for New Creation multi-purpose building next to stage.

“It will actually allow us to create jobs for survivors right here in our community that deserve a hope and a future,” said Dorman-Andrew.
