AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A Georgia woman has been arrested following a high-speed, multi-agency chase down I-81.

Rockbridge County Sheriff Tony McFaddin reports that, at around 1:15 AM last Friday, January 30, 2026, a suspect’s vehicle was clocked traveling southbound at speeds exceeding 100 miles-per-hour and driving erratically.

The pursuit began in Augusta County and continued into Rockbridge County where tire deflation devices were deployed, safely disabling the suspect’s car near mile-marker 197.

McFaddin says the driver, Melissa Mathura from Georgia, was taken into custody and was charged in Augusta County with Felony Eluding, Reckless Driving, and Driving Under the Influence (Second Offense within Five Years).

No one was injured in the incident.

According to online records, Melissa Mathura’s bond hearing Friday morning was continued until tomorrow afternoon, February 3, 2026, in Augusta County General District Court.
