TIMBERVILLE, VA (Rocktown Now) — Randy Andes, the founder and driving force behind Randy’s Do it Best Hardware, has announced his retirement after more than 50 years of dedicated service to the hardware industry.
Known for his unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction and community engagement, Andes’ retirement marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for the independent hardware store.
Randy’s Do it Best Hardware first opened its doors in 2001, with Andes’ vision of creating an independent hardware store where customer service was paramount. Along with his wife, Shirley Andes, the business grew to become a cornerstone of the community, with locations in Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Greene Counties. Despite its growth, the company has maintained the values of personalized service and local connection that Andes instilled from the beginning.
“The heart of this business has always been the people – our dedicated team and loyal customers,” said Andes. “While it’s bittersweet to step away, I’m confident the next generation of leadership will continue to uphold the traditions and values we’ve built together.”
Andes’ retirement took effect early January, but he doesn’t plan on slowing down soon. Andes will continue to work for the business he created, stating, “I would miss seeing my regulars” and having the opportunity to share his wealth of dad jokes collected from over five decades in customer service.
The leadership of Randy’s Do it Best Hardware will transition to Andes’ son-in-law, Christian Herrick, who has served the company for over 16 years, and the last eight years as CEO. Herrick expressed his gratitude for Andes’ mentorship and his excitement for the future of the business.
“Randy has set a high standard for excellence and integrity,” said Herrick. “I’m committed to building on his legacy and ensuring that Randy’s Do it Best Hardware remains a trusted resource for our communities.”
