STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — It appears that the former chair of the Staunton City School board has escaped jail time after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors.
According to online records, Natasha McCurdy pled guilty to an amended misdemeanor charge of embezzlement during a hearing this week in Staunton Circuit Court.
A judge then sentenced the 39-year-old McCurdy to a year in jail with all of it suspended.
She was also sentenced to a year of supervised probation and ordered to perform community service.
McCurdy resigned as school board chair during a special meeting in May of last year, after Staunton Police named her in the embezzlement investigation.
Her guilty plea cancels a trial that was scheduled for September 22nd.
