ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Former Rockingham County School Superintendent Oskar Scheikl is weighing in on the dispute between the county school board and Harrisonburg City Public Schools over control of Massanutten Technical Center.
Scheikl posted on his Facebook page Tuesday evening that he is stunned by the county school board’s reported demand that Harrisonburg City School Superintendent Dr. Michael Richards be removed from a leadership role in MTC governance.
Scheikl added that Richards’ support of the school has been unequivocal from the beginning of his tenure, and it seems to him that this is a purely personal political grievance.
The county is seeking more voting control over MTC, but Richards has said that state law requires that the governing board remains an equal partnership said that each superintendent have a role in leading a regional school.
