BROOKLYN, N.Y. (JMU Athletics) – Former James Madison women’s basketball standout Kiki Jefferson (2019-2023) was drafted 31st overall by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2024 Women’s National Basketball Association on Monday night.

Jefferson is the fifth JMU player to be drafted into the WNBA, joining Kamiah Smalls (2020), Jazmon Gwathmey (2016), Lauren Okafor (2015) and Tamera Young (2008).

The guard wrapped up her career at James Madison as the program’s sixth-highest scorer (1,838 points) and finished ninth in total rebounds (815). In her final season in Harrisonburg, Jefferson was named the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Sun Belt Tournament Most Outstanding Player, helping guide the Dukes to a conference title and NCAA berth for the first time since 2016. The Lancaster, Pa. native graduated in May 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport & Recreation Management.

Jefferson spent her graduate year at Louisville, where she made the All-ACC Second Team and led the Cardinals in scoring at 12.3 points per game. Jefferson also finished second on the team in assists per game (2.3) and third in rebounds per game (4.5).
