Florence “Flo” Martin Mast, 81 of Broadway, Virginia passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord on April 28, 2024.
Flo was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on November 3, 1942 to Edwin and Elizabeth Martin. She was one of ten children.
Flo graduated from Rockingham School of Nursing in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She worked as an operating room nurse at RMH for 40 years. Shortly after Flo graduated nursing school, she was introduced to her husband of over 52 years, Harry Mast. Flo and Harry were blessed with 2 children, Craig and Lori. They were the light of her life. Their family enjoyed taking cross country trips over summer break, camping and biking.
An important part of Flo’s life was also her church family at Grace Mennonite Fellowship. Flo was very active in volunteering and also travelled many times to Central America on mission trips, where she used her valuable nursing experience to assist in surgeries there. After her retirement, Flo enjoyed making stain glass creations and sewing.
She was the most gentle, loving and caring “Mom” and “Grandma.” Everyone wanted to be at Grandma and Grandpa’s home, where Flo would make such delicious home-cooked meals and iced mint tea. She treasured many ice cream dates with her grandchildren! Those who knew and loved Flo, cherished her giving spirit, her quiet wisdom, and her unending patience. She leaves the example of a life well lived through times of joy, as well as through times of difficulty.
Flo is survived by her husband, Harry; son, Craig Mast and wife, Melissa of Salisbury, MD; daughter, Lori Schuit and husband, Rod of Broadway, VA; 7 grandchildren, Alicia, Kenny and Hannah Mast, Oliver Schuit and wife Brooke, Elizabeth, Isaac and Jake Schuit; 1 great granddaughter, Scarlett Schuit.
A Celebration of Flo’s Life will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 12:00pm at Grace Mennonite Fellowship, located at 209 Lacey Spring Rd, Harrisonburg, VA. There will be a reception at the church, following the service.
